At Debian Founder’s conference, Ian Murdock.

At day 4, we went to a small restaurant inside SESC. We had some nice chicken and churrasco. Here is the buffet.

And from now on… Drunk Amaya!

Brazil: First day

without comments

Well, I’m delayed for over a day. We arrived the day before yesterday, and until today I’ll write my first chronic (while writing this, I’m learning to use ImageMagick’s convert which is a nice tool for the thumbnail generation ;-).

Anyway, Gunnar arrived home at 4:00 PM, the time of departure flight was at 19:40, and we had to be some hours before, in the airport. So, the images, which everybody was expecting:

On the way to the Mexico City Airport.

Doesn’t the Varig turbine is Debian-like? :-)

Mexico City airport.

The International waiting room.

Cute/NT Plus system, WTF?!

In the queue for the plane.

Inside the plane: A big one, 9 seats on each row :-\

At night: Delicious spaghetti at Varig’s plane.

At morning, breakfast: Like sassage, scrambled eggs, and chesse and ham.

Brazilian sunrise, from the plane.

At Sao Paulo’s airport, we met some other guys waiting the Porto Alegre flight: So they decided to play some cards game.

The Policia Federal at Porto Alegre’s airport.

Isn’t he so fucking funny? ;-)

Italian developer, Guido, taking potographs.

So, we arrived and the van was waiting for us.

Gunnar and Amaya.

The streets in Porto Alegre.

A very nice helmet!

Rio Grande du Sol (Porto Alegre’s province), Brazil and SESC (the convention center) flags.

Marcela, nice Argentinian friend.

Rudy, nice Peruvian friend.

Free (free as in free beer ;-) food!

Hacklab.

So this was the first day. The complete pics are here. Tomorrow I’ll post the pics of the second day (yesterday). The weather? So fucking cold.

Before DebConf

without comments

Well, this is my last post in Mexico in a couple of weeks before DebConf. Today I’m flying to Sao Paolo at 19:40, and arriving at 6:50, and then, another flight to Porto Alegre.

I’ll blog and photolog all the experiences ;)

Hangover

without comments

Well, yesterday a nice crew were on Tacvbo’s, 13 guys drinking beer and sharing some nice moments (as I remember the room on a clock-like turn): p4ola, zerver, royald, tuxfer, Odín, Little_Bear, MiG, Tato, Ramón Carazo, GnuOwned, Juan (AntiloOp’s cousin) and AntiloOp.

It was nice to meet some guys I have seen on pictures before, or talked on IRC like GnuOwned and AntiloOp.

Anyway I woke up this morning and I was so thirsty, my tongue was dry and my mouth in need of a beer, but I just drank some lemon water which my mom made yesterday: It is so cool that water when you need it, it is refreshing, like seeing a dolphin swim when you are in a boat (I always have associated the fact of a dolphin swimming in the ocean, with refreshing freedom ;)

Today is quite different from other days: There is a hot sun ;) The zone where I go to school and work is very near to the western on Mexico City, very close to Toluca (Toluca is well known as a very old city, its average is below 12 C), and right over there it’s been cold, raining, etc. So it is nice to see a pure and beautiful sun today.

Two days away from Brazil, and because you all have requested it ;), here is my TODO during my stay there:

o Finish the little port I am making of Borland’s conio C library, to a well structured and need-fit compliant.

o Help on debian-installer l10n/i18n issues.

o Get involved on Debian Desktop Project.

o Get my packages to the Debian Archive.

o Work a little bit on linevents.

o As somebody on the DebConf4 mailing list said: “Expect the unexpected” ;-)

o Probably I will find excuses for not to do these and others things :-P

File Uploading

without comments

Damn, I’ve been wanting to leave everything done at work, as I can reach Brazil next week without any problems.

So, my little problem of today is:

How can a user validate a file size _before_ uploading it over an HTML/HTTP form?

I can think on JavaScript, but there is a little problem that makes my head twisted: I do not know anything about JS.

Anyway, making some nice research on the WWW about some scripts on this, I haven’t found anything useful XD. Obviously, this have to be made on the client-side, any intention on validating the file size on the server-side will produce an unnecessary waste of bandwith. And, in the user side, waste of time.

ITOH, I could do nothing of this and say goodbye to DebConf, but that is not a choice ;)

Why do I feel dirty on mood? Because I haven’t taken a shower since Sunday ;)

The beginning

without comments

I don’t like Mondays, whatever I do, I do it tired. This is maybe a normal behaviour on the world.

Maybe I am like a cool mutant that only works fine on not mondays ;) Walkin through the walls and then, on monday, just sleep and do nothing ;)

It is nice, maybe one day I will make like a brebage that makes do that.

SOAD is the only thing that seems nice today.

Scanner and jaws

without comments

I really need an scanner :(

Tomorrow, we’ll start to give some courses on SOFIA (the academic system we have been working on for the last 6 months). Four courses a day, it’ll be a PITA for sure.

And my time on the computer will be reduced, damn.

Anyway, I have to find some time to package jaws, which I have a ITP for almost two months and a half. I will probably use Drupal package to get based, as it is a nice and very similar example. Gunnar has warned me he won’t have a blog until I package jaws - I don’t know if is proper to cry or laugh :-P

OTH, that package _must_ be finished before I go to DebConf.

So, I _do_ use jaws (I just don’t use it on this blog, I know) at GULIbero’s site. That is because so many people has told me that I should package a software I actually use, and well, I really use it.

jaws is nice, I won’t share some security bugs on it (for example the 777 mode on xml/ directory), and I’ll try to contribute it to my upstream friend, Jonathan Hernández. I will definitely have news about jaws package on the next days, before thrusday, for sure.

The easy coming on Saturday

without comments

I don’t know what happen on weekends. I usually do nothing productive, this blog is one of those things ;-)

Anyway, I made my hackergotchi. I was tedious since I really can’t handle Gimp in a good way, and I’m quite a newbie with image processor tools.

So here it is:

This kind of things happen when you don’t know really what to do, what to think, what to eat, where to go… Anyway, that pic is like 6 months old, my hair is longer now :-P
